Healthy Homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

Indulge in a healthier version of the classic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups! These treats have all the irresistible flavor and creamy texture of the original, but with wholesome ingredients that you may already have in your kitchen. With just 4 simple ingredients and no baking required, these peanut butter cups are the perfect sweet yet guilt-free indulgence. Sweetened only with maple syrup and dark chocolate, they’re packed with healthy fats and are individually portioned for easy moderation. Here’s how to make this healthier candy at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 bar dark chocolate (preferably 70% cacao or higher)

  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter (no added sugar or salt)

  • 1/8 to 1/4 cup pure maple syrup (adjust to your preferred sweetness)

  • Optional: A splash of milk (to thin out the peanut butter mixture, if desired)

Instructions:

  1. Melt the Dark Chocolate:
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and fully melted.

  2. Prepare the Chocolate Base:
Line a muffin tin with 6-8 cupcake liners. Spoon a small amount of melted chocolate into the bottom of each liner, spreading it to cover the base. Freeze for 5 minutes, or until the chocolate sets firm.

  3. Make the Peanut Butter Filling:
In a bowl, combine the peanut butter and maple syrup, stirring until smooth and creamy. If you prefer a thinner consistency, add a splash of milk and stir until fully combined.

  4. Add the Peanut Butter Layer:
Once the chocolate base is set, spoon a generous amount of the peanut butter mixture on top of the chocolate in each cup, smoothing it out evenly. Freeze for another 5 minutes until firm.

  5. Top with More Chocolate:
Once the peanut butter layer is set, pour the remaining melted chocolate on top, covering the peanut butter layer completely. Freeze again for 30-60 minutes, or until the cups are fully set.

  6. Enjoy:
Once set, pop the cups out of the muffin tin and enjoy your homemade healthier Reese’s cups! Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to a week.

Tips:

  • Feel free to experiment with different nut butters, such as almond or cashew butter, for a unique twist!

  • For an extra crunch, add a sprinkle of sea salt on top before freezing.

  • For those with a sweet tooth, you can increase the amount of maple syrup for a more indulgent treat.
